Coffee of the Day

So, I don’t know if any of you have heard the rumble as of late, but Starbucks came out with a S’mores Frappuccino. Here’s the official description:

Marshmallow-infused whipped cream, milk chocolate sauce, a creamy blend of graham, coffee, milk and ice finished off with more marshmallowy whipped cream and a graham cracker crumble.

Yup. It’s marshmallow-y, chocolate-y, coffee-y, graham cracker crumbly goodness that you drink out of a cookie straw, and I got one today just so I could tell you about it. Because I’m selfless like that.

It’s good.

I’d go into more detail about how good it is, but that takes time. Time I don’t have because I’m too busy drinking this cup full of deliciousness while occasionally biting into my cookie straw, future sugar crash be damned!

Coffee of the Day

I’ve got a new drink for you guys. It’s not complicated. It’s not new. But it is delicious.

Back when I was a barista, so very long ago, a customer ordered a Starbucks Doubleshot. I had no idea what it was, and not just because I had been on the job only two weeks. It was this secret drink that apparently only really cool people knew about. My co-worker showed me how to make it, I served it, and that was that. I went back into my overly-sugared white mocha coma and never thought about it again. Until today, when I noticed it sitting oh so subtly at the bottom of the real menu.

I thought back to that time that I made it, and couldn’t for the life of me remember exactly what it was or what was in it. But I was feeling particularly indecisive this morning, so I just ordered it blindly. What’s the worst that could happen? Then while I was waiting, I looked it up on my Starbucks app. It’s shots of espresso (with classic or other syrup, if you’re into that) shaken over ice and topped with 2% milk. Mmmmm. I got mine with 1 pump of classic syrup (which is basically just sugar water, in case you were ever wondering), and it’s really hitting the spot. So go forth and get one while the weather is still “springlike” and before we get a random snowstorm and I go back into my hot coffee bunker.

Valentine Nails

IMG_1974-3I’m not much of a ‘nail art’ kind of girl. It’s either one color or bare nails for me. So I’m not really sure what got into me recently, but I had a huge impulse to don my phalanges with a little gold accent. And since Valentine’s Day is this weekend, why not have a little fun with it?

All you need is your regular assortment of polish (base coat, your favorite red, top coat, gold accent) and some tape. You can use washi tape, masking tape, scotch tape, or in the case of this homeowner: painter’s tape. It is a multi-functional tool.

v-day nails

1. Paint your nails as usual.
2. Take your piece of tape, fold it in half and cut out a small heart.
3. Gently place your tape on your desired nail and polish in the outline. Don’t put it on too thick or it will bleed.
4. For the accent on my first finger, sweep some gold polish onto the very tip. Then wipe the excess polish off the brush and gently pull the sparkles down the nail gradually.
5. Put an extra layer of top coat on your enhanced nails–and voila!

Coffee of the Day

Did you guys know you can get an iced flat white?

I felt like something cold today. I’m not exactly sure why, as it is still below freezing on the regular in my beloved Chi-town. But an iced beverage was just calling my name, so I asked if they could do the Flat White iced. If you want to get technical about it and really break down the beverage, I could’ve just asked for an ‘iced triple grande whole milk latte w/the single origin ristretto shots.’ But now that I think about it that way and typed it all out, that’s quite a mouthful. I like to be low maintenance when I can be, and an ‘iced flat white’ rolls off the tongue much easier. Plus, Sharon, my new favorite barista in my lobby Starbucks even topped it with foam. She’s a gem.

I know my last post was also about a Flat White, but I am officially addicted to this beverage. Between the smooth ristretto and the whole milk, it’s just the perfect start to my day. And I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go back to non-whole milk in my coffee. Just thinking about it makes me shudder. It’s so much creamier and flavorful! I had a friend in college who would exclusively drink whole milk, and I thought he was crazy. I was raised on 100% skim milk, after all, and no one could tell me that there was a whole world (pun intended) just waiting for me to discover it. I think I might owe that friend an apology…
